About the Marathon Des Sables

Hello, you may have seen recently on TV footage of this event featuring that 'adrenaline junky' Jack Osborne, thankfully he was unable to complete the race! However in March 2007 we are hoping to complete the Marathon des Sables this coming March 2007.

It covers 243km/151 miles (in sections similar to 25, 34, 38, 82, 42, 22 km) run over 6 days. Competitors have to carry everything they will need for the duration (apart from a tent) on their backs in a rucksack (food, clothes, medical kit, sleeping bag etc). Experiencing mid-day temperatures of up to 120°F on uneven rocky, stony ground as well as sand dunes.

Why we are running

There are 4 of us taking part, as a team 'Quicksand' and hope collectively to raise money for 4 very worthy charities. The charities have been chosen individually for personal reasons and ones we strongly believe in and hope with your help to be able make a significant contribution to them. We have a target of £10,000.

We would be very grateful for any amount you could make towards this cause. All of the costs for the race have been covered by ourselves and all the money raised will be going to the charities.

This is by far the toughest challenge any of us have taken on, and greatly appreciate your help.

Team Quicksand, consists of Owen Greene, Tom Greene, Graeme Walker and Duncan Hill; A collection of excited young men who decided to revolt against the British weather and go in search of some winter sun. 3 hail from north of the border (Glasgow) and Duncan flies the lone southern flag (Manchester!).
